Watch Your Purchased Items

Is the pain worth it?

Apple is known for its innovative technology and smart products. A new lawsuit, however, showcases a design that might not have come initially advertised. Five consumers of the Series 3 smartwatch have filed a class action lawsuit, alleging a defect that causes personal injury. One of the claimants was so severely injured that the broken watch display sliced open a vein. Unfortunately, this is not the first stream of complaints reported. As early as 2015, when the first Apple Watch was introduced to the market, customers have described appearances of burn marks or rashes on their wrists. Continue reading

Music Festers File Lawsuit

Not all fun

Three festival-goers claim that $5 million is the reasonable amount necessary to compensate for conditions that have been described as uncomfortable and dangerous. Those who have attended an outdoor music festival and camped on the premises for more than one night may attest to the lack of cleanliness and luxury. Some of the typical festival proclivities may include long lines at the portable toilet station, limited access to running water or showers, tight camping quarters, and insurmountable levels of excitement and fun. The lawsuit in question, however, notes a discrepancy between how the festival was promoted to potential consumers and what was actually delivered. Continue reading

In the Market to Settle

Risky business

As customers peruse the endless gift options available on Amazon for the upcoming Holiday season, they may come across items that should not be purchased by the average shopper. For example, industrial-grade pesticides have remained the topic of a dispute with Amazon and the Attorney General’s Office in Washington State. In fact, these higher-grade pesticides differed considerably from widely available products that might be found at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Continue reading

A Rusty Situation

Incident in the West

A famous Hollywood actor is the subject of recent lawsuits tied to the unfortunate shooting that took place on the “Rust” movie set in New Mexico. On October 21, Alec Baldwin pulled the trigger to a gun that he was told and believed to be cold. The devastating conclusion to Baldwin’s firing resulted in the death of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director, Joel Souza. According to the script supervisor, Mamie Mitchell, who has filed the most recent “Rust” lawsuit, this incident was not the first weapons-related accident on set. Reportedly, one of Baldwin’s stunt doubles accidentally misfired a weapon and a prop master mistakenly shot herself in the foot.   Continue reading

Lives Derailed in Accident

Train crash

Shortly following a September 25 train accident in Montana, the wife of a deceased passenger has filed a lawsuit against Amtrak and BNSF Railway. The ten-car train was traveling from Chicago to Seattle and was maintaining the speed of 75 mph at the time of the incident. While Rebecca Schneider was located in the sleeper car, her husband’s viewing car derailed, killing him. Two other fatalities in the accident include a couple, Don and Margie Varnadoe, who were taking a cross-country trip in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. A portion of the remaining 138 passengers and 16 crew members sought medical treatment for injuries, and all but five have since been released from the hospital. Continue reading
