Sony Presses Reset Button, Avoids Lawsuit

A few years ago, Sony’s free-to-play online service, known as the Playstation Network, was compromised by a rogue group of hackers.  Personal and private data, including credit card information, was stolen from about 70 million PSN users.  A class action was filed immediately in San Diego, California as Sony scrambled to stop the bleeding.  Luckily for this entertainment giant, the hot-button lawsuit has been dismissed.   Unfortunately for the Playstation 3 faithful, a judge has decided to have the case thrown out, citing Sony’s Privacy Policy, which all PSN users agree to, being compliant with the consumer protection laws. Blacklisted? Investors Rally Against Blackberry

Blackberry’s tough times continue as their shareholders cry foul.  In a recent class-action lawsuit, thousands of investors claim that they were misled by the company’s lofty sales expectations.  Many are complaining that the company failed to compete with industry leaders Google and Apple (let alone Microsoft). The lawsuit includes a number of those who bought stock in Blackberry over the past calendar year.  Unhappy campers are furious that they mistakenly placed their faith in the wrong smartphone/technology movement and are seeking damages.  Read more

Dr. Oz Beats Lawsuit Over Burned Feet

In April of 2012, Dr. Oz shared a home remedy for insomnia with his many TV viewers, called the “Knapsack Heated Rice Footsie”. You pour uncooked rice into the toes of a pair of socks, heat them in the microwave, then put the socks on and go to sleep.  New Jersey resident, Frank Dietl was watching the show and decided to try the well-known doctor’s at-home remedy. Dietl suffered from neuropathy of the lower extremities as a result of his Diabetes, and sustained second and third degree burns to his feet as a result of Dr. Oz’s advice. Frank Dietl sued the doctor for neglecting his duty to warn viewers of the possible effects of attempting this alternative cure for insomnia. Read More

In the present baseball climate, scrutiny and finger pointing has become the norm. Personalities and figures are cavalierly levying unfounded assertions of baseball players.  Fear not though, these libelous accusations are not being met without legal recourse. These past two weeks we have seen Alex Rodriguez take action against the MLB and more recently Major League Superstar Albert Pujols take action against a St. Louis Radio personality.

Off the Runway: Fashion Fury and a New Suit

Project Runway, the hit television series, has its very own Veruca Salt. Winner Irina Shabayeva, nicknamed “Mean-a Irina” on Season 6 of Project Runway, left over 300 guests waiting for her collection to come down the runway during Fashion Week. Ms. Shabayeva is being sued for breach of contract, where the company is seeking compensation and damages for the “breach of good faith,” as well as costs, interest and attorney fees. The Lifetime fashion and design show hosted by model Heidi Klum and was previously on the Bravo network. Read more
