Battle Lines Drawn Over World War II Statue

Healing old wounds

Residents of Southern California have filed a lawsuit against the city of Glendale over a controversial World War II statue. The $30,000 “Comfort Women” memorial is in honor of those Chinese and Korean women who were allegedly forced into prostitution by Imperial Japan in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The plaintiffs claim that the city is violating the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, which is also referred to as “the law of the land”. Supporters of the statue are active in spreading word about the comfort women issue, while the Japanese government has never officially apologized on the record. While no dollar amount has been mentioned, many believe the plaintiffs are strictly interested in removing the statue altogether. Read more

Over 100 million people tuned in this past February to watch the 2014 Super Bowl. Friends. Aside from the immediate effects of the brain trauma, football players are increasingly reporting long-term effects such as dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Some of the consequences of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) include depression, increased aggression, and other memory-related issues. Lawsuit Over Evil Stuffed Bear

“Lots-O’-Problems”

“Disney Enterprises has been taken to Texas federal court by a trademark owner who objects to the “Lots-O’-Huggin'” stuffed bear character in Toy Story 3“. Lots-O is a psychologically dysfunctional stuffed animal featured in the movie, and is the principal “villain”. Diece-Lisa Industries is a company located in New Jersey, who created “Lots of Hugs” stuffed toy bears, and have been licensing them since 1995. DLI has trademarks, and a registered patent as well; they also state that Disney was well aware of this patent based on previous contracts with the company. Fiery smell

Imagine having a backyard party planned and on the day of the festivities you are forced to bring the party inside due to something in the air that is causing all different types of discomfort for you and your guest? Well that is what happened to one family in Irwindale, CA who were celebrating a birthday party and they were migrated involuntarily indoors due to a strong smell that overwhelmed them. This smell was due to the air from Sriracha hot sauce factory which is supposedly contaminating the air in and around Southern California. The city of Irwindale filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court asking a judge to stop production at the Huy Fong Foods factory. Lawsuit Over Life on Mars

Aliens among us?

Astrobiologist Dr. Rhawn Joseph, filed a lawsuit based on images shot by the Opportunity rover on Mars. NASA identified the object in question as a rock, but the scientist is stating it could be more, and a proper scientific investigation is necessary. Huffington Post states, “He is suing NASA and its administrator, Charles Bolden, in an effort to compel the space agency to take a closer look at the rock. The petition, which was filed Monday in California, calls for NASA to closely photograph and thoroughly scientifically examine and investigate a putative biological organism.” While NASA may have determined that this unidentifiable object is a rock, Joseph believes the image resembles some type of fungus.
