Although it is based in Texas, 7-Eleven is a household name in several countries. The multinational company offers considerations for franchise opportunities, but also maintains the right to end the contract if certain standards or guidelines are not upheld. A 7-Eleven store owner located in Osaka, Japan, for example, is now ordered to pay $845,000 in damages to the company for failing to remain open 24 hours a day. Starting in 2019, a franchisee, Mitoshi Matsumoto, who opened the store in 2012, decided to close down operation for a few hours every night. The decision to close for five hours each night resulted in a loss of business and an infraction against company policy. Continue reading →

A Colorado-based ranch is taking legal action against a Nebraska-run grazing business for breach of contract. In April 2020, the two parties agreed that Cornerstone Grazing, operated by owners, Derek and Lesa Schwanebeck, and their sole employee, John C. Odom, would graze 603 bred cows and 22 bulls throughout the course of the summer. The contract would end on November 12 when Three Forks Ranch would sell the bred cows. Following a September 2 report that several cows had died due to an apparent outbreak of disease, Three Forks Ranch employees traveled to Cornerstone Grazing to find twenty dead cattle. Batting Zero in Ballpark Construction Project

The incomplete construction of the Dunkin Donuts ballpark for the minor league team, Hartford Yard Goats, has led to a $90 million lawsuit against the City of Hartford, CT. The developer hired for the project, Centerplan, claims their contract with the city was unjustly terminated. The city contends that Centerplan missed deadlines to complete the project, made changes to the original plans, and produced several mistakes in the building of the new ballpark. Centerplan blames the city for their delays and the alteration of certain aspects of the original plans. The lawsuit has already progressed to the trial level, and an anticipated verdict will be heard by the end of this Friday, July 5. Continue reading →

Actress Sues Law Firm For Misusing Local Television Ad

Law firm finds themselves on the receiving end of a law suit

Actress Elena Aroaz is suing the producers of a commercial she was in for breach of contract. Aroaz portrayed a victim in a wrongful injury case for the Levinson Trachtenberg Group’s tongue-in-cheek commercial. The ad took off and the rights were sold to multiple law firms across the U.S without approval from the actress. The suit was filed by Aroaz in Manhattan Supreme Court and alleges that Levinson Trachtenberg Group paid her $600 in 2009 to appear in a 30 second advertisement that was only supposed to air on local television for a year.

Como se dice “Yahoo” en Espanol? In a recent lawsuit between Yahoo and Mexico’s version of the Yellow Pages, Yahoo has been accused of various counts relating to breach of contract. A judge in Mexico City has brought down a $2.7 billion judgment on the internet corporation. Worldwide Directories and Ideas Interactivas claim that they have been losing profits due to Yahoo and Yahoo de Mexico’s regular business practices. The details of the lawsuit have not become public information; reports out of their headquarters in Sunnyvale, California state that Yahoo does not believe the decision to be final. Read more
