At the beginning of this month, followers of the intriguing legal spectacle, starring Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, were provided coverage of a verdict that left Depp $15 million richer. Despite the resolution of this defamation lawsuit, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor cannot shy away from the limelight. Before it escalates to court, Depp is attempting to settle a lawsuit in which he is named as the defendant in an alleged assault incident. His legal team is working diligently to work out an agreement with the plaintiff, Gregg Brooks, who was employed as the location manager on the set of the crime thriller, City of Lies. Resort Slopes to an Agreement

An upscale Montana ski resort has entered a settlement with several seasonal workers who claimed they were discriminated against and cheated out of their tips and wages. During the winter months between 2017 and 2018, the group of visiting workers from Jamaica maintained positions in the hospitality, food and bar departments as housekeepers, cooks, servers, and bartenders. Despite the promise of potentially receiving between $400 and $600 a night, the workers were not able to collect the full amount of their tips or service charges. The defendants named in the lawsuit, which was filed in 2018, have agreed to pay $1 million in legal fees and compensation to the workers. Continue reading →

Falsifying documents?

In the bootlegging era of the 1920’s, Atlantic City was known for its booming success and questionable corruption.  While AC has experienced an unfortunate decline since the pandemic, the tendencies to engage in unethical activities seem to have withstood the test of time. A former Ocean Casino Resort executive has filed a lawsuit, claiming she was terminated from her position in retaliation for acting as a whistleblower.  She had questioned the submission of paperwork to the New Jersey gaming division, defining it as falsified.  In response to her concern, the director of the state agency suggested that the executive be removed from her position. About fifty former wrestlers from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) have accused the organization of failing to provide adequate protection and safety to its wrestlers.  While they make the job look easy, wrestlers do experience complications and face injuries related to their sport.  One of the more frequent injuries associated with professional wrestling is the concussion. Although defined as a soft tissue injury, repeated concussions may leave lasting impacts on an individual’s brain and system function.  Throughout the course of a wrestler’s career, he or she may suffer from more than one concussion.  For this reason, the fifty former wrestlers filed a lawsuit against WWE. Airplane antics gone wrong

Traveling in an airplane is scary enough, without the thought of your flight crew spying on you. In a February 2017 flight, embarking from Pittsburgh to Phoenix, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant discovered an iPad in the cockpit.  The iPad was live streaming a video of the other pilot using the bathroom.  The flight attendant, Renee Steinaker, took out her personal cell phone to photograph the iPad, as a way of documenting the incident. Due to the unprofessional and intrusive nature of the streamed video, Steinaker reported the event to her superiors at Southwest.  Steinaker was not met with an ethical response, however, and was told to not reveal the contents of the video to anyone.
