Lawsuit Not Landing in Court

Fight to the moon

Following a protest initiated by Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin space organization, a lawsuit was filed. In the protest, Blue Origin sought to draw awareness to the apparently biased decision of NASA to afford a $2.9 billion contract to Elon Musk’s SpaceX. The subsequent lawsuit, which was filed two weeks after the protest in August 2021, aimed to allow a space in the contract for Blue Origin to participate in the opportunity to return to the moon. If the lawsuit resulted in the favor of Blue Origin, NASA would be obligated to fund the operation of a second spacecraft, commanded by astronauts, to and from the moon. Among Nirvana’s studio records, perhaps one of the most iconic covers is printed on the “Nevermind” album. Although this was not their first album, it served as their breakthrough and reason for reaching the top of the charts in the early 1990’s. While “Nevermind” helped define Nirvana’s future in the music industry, it also eventually led to the band’s recent involvement in a federal lawsuit, in which the baby on the cover, who is now 30 years old, is suing for exploitation. He is holding several parties accountable for advertising and profiting from an album that illustrates an indecent photograph of a 4-month-old baby in a pool. Continue reading →

Screening litigation

According to a contractual agreement between Disney and Scarlett Johansson, box office ticket sales would largely determine the actress’s salary for her Black Widow performance. Following Disney’s decision to debut the film on the company’s streaming service, Disney+, on the same day as the theatrical release, Johansson filed a lawsuit for breach of contract on July 29. In her argument, Johansson claims a prior agreement to exclusively release the movie to theaters was not honored. She is alleging loss of compensation and financial opportunity. Continue reading →

Crack Down on Animal Neglect

Cattle trouble

A Colorado-based ranch is taking legal action against a Nebraska-run grazing business for breach of contract.  In April 2020, the two parties agreed that Cornerstone Grazing, operated by owners, Derek and Lesa Schwanebeck, and their sole employee, John C. Odom, would graze 603 bred cows and 22 bulls throughout the course of the summer.  The contract would end on November 12 when Three Forks Ranch would sell the bred cows.  Following a September 2 report that several cows had died due to an apparent outbreak of disease, Three Forks Ranch employees traveled to Cornerstone Grazing to find twenty dead cattle.  The Colorado ranch is now suing the Nebraska ranch for $500,000 in damages. Home Improvement Mishap

Renovation dispute

When renovating your home, it is imperative to hire competent contractors that will do the job right the first time.  A Springfield couple performed their due diligence in hiring Home Depot to completely reconstruct their new home.  The renovation would include a new kitchen and bathroom, and new flooring and windows. Home Depot subcontracted the job to B. Lombardi & Sons of Cedar Grove, Verona and Roseland.  The couple is now suing both parties for incomplete work and violations of the Consumer Fraud Act and the Home Improvement Practices Act.  In addition, the couple claims the contractors used poor quality building materials and breached their contracts.
