An eye for an eye

We only get two eyes.  If we lose one, it does not grow back.  If damaged, the optic nerve cannot be transplanted.  When it is necessary to undergo surgery on the eye, or eyes, trust the operating doctor and read all paperwork in its entirety.  In August 2017, Sutton Dryfhout granted her pediatric ophthalmologist permission to operate on her left eye to correct a lazy eye and remove a cyst.  In a lawsuit filed in Cook County, IL recently, Dryfhout claims that her trusted doctor not only operated on the incorrect eye, but also falsified already signed paperwork. Dryfhout now suffers from continuous optical complications, including double vision.  Continue reading →

Red Lobster Over Serving Habit is a Danger to Elderly Community

Overflowed glasses may cause injury

Due to issues of over serving alcoholic beverages, restaurants may be held liable for any accidents or injuries that may take place after the patrons leave the establishments. This past March, following dinner and drinks at Red Lobster, an elderly, 113-pound woman in Texas fell in the popular seafood restaurant’s parking lot. Marlene Spencer’s fall resulted in a broken hip, a broken right arm, and a head injury. The 82-year-old filed a lawsuit against Red Lobster, claiming negligence.

It is common for people to suffer from food poisoning or a stomach virus. It is rare for people to undergo life-changing medical conditions after eating contaminated food. Chloe Rodgerson falls into the statistic of five to ten percent of E. coli infection victims who have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). Two years ago, in 2015, Chloe’s family purchased rotisserie chicken salad from a local Costco Wholesale Corp. While every member of her family who sampled the chicken salad fell ill to some degree, Chloe was admitted to the hospital with a severe E. coli infection. Read more

Connecticut Man Sues Citi Bike

Bikers beware

Ronald Corwin is suing Citi Bike for $15 million. He currently suffers nerve damage in his brain as a result of a Citi Bike crash in NYC last October. Corwin was injured when he flipped over a bicycle he was riding after his front wheel hit a concrete barrier installed next to the bicycle docking station at E. 56th St. and Madison Ave. As a result of the crash Corwin currently suffers from traumatic nerve palsy that has left him unable to taste and smell. “Everything tastes like cardboard,” says Smiley (Corwin’s lawyer). “It’s terrible. He’s lost the pleasure of tasting food and of literally smelling the roses” (Lazzaro, 2014).

Dead End Taxi

Imagine waiting for someone you love dearly to arrive and when they do, you open the door to the taxi and they are dead. Sounds terrible, right? Well, that is was happened to a mother from North Carolina, Deborah Washington, who found her son A’Darrin Washington, “unresponsive and cold to the touch,” when he arrived home in a taxi.  A’Darrin Washington was discharged from Cumberland County Hospital and died on Nov. 22, 2011 at the age of 30 and was a patient of the hospital for 10 years. Ms. Washington is suing the security firm whose guards are accused of forcibly removing her son from a hospital even though he was allegedly dying or possibly already dead. Read More
