The stock trading and investing app, Robinhood, has developed into one of the most popular broker-dealer platforms. Aside from its “commission-free” marketing, the benefits include easy accessibility and your first stock free! About a month ago, however, consumers learned of the downsides to using Robinhood. At least 90 lawsuits have been filed against the company for restricting trade of specific securities, including GameStop. Home Improvement Mishap
When renovating your home, it is imperative to hire competent contractors that will do the job right the first time. A Springfield couple performed their due diligence in hiring Home Depot to completely reconstruct their new home. The renovation would include a new kitchen and bathroom, and new flooring and windows. Home Depot subcontracted the job to B. Lombardi & Sons of Cedar Grove, Verona and Roseland. The couple is now suing both parties for incomplete work and violations of the Consumer Fraud Act and the Home Improvement Practices Act. During the pandemic, one of the concerns that may not have initially come to mind was coins. Due to the potential fear of contamination and the risk of the virus, many people are opting to use only their credit cards and refuse to touch coins and paper money. While consumers frantically purchase toilet paper for their households, owners of some establishments are pocketing change. Chipotle is one such restaurant that is refraining from returning the proper change amount when their customers pay with cash. NY Times Facing Rough Times
A California resident is taking legal action against a company that is based on the other side of the United States. In the resident’s claim, she states instances of deceptive business practices, committed by the New York Times. The lawsuit is on the level of a class action, as more people than just the California resident are affected. The resident, Maribel Moses, is concerned about two policies of the New York Times, one that involves automatic subscription renewals and the other that involves subscription cancellations. Jalapeño Lawsuit Loses Heat
When consumers have food allergies, there is always a risk in dining at a restaurant. About two years ago, on May 8, 2018, a patron of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Sioux City, Iowa received both a poor dining experience and a trip to the hospital. As a result of her less than pleasurable dinner, Rochelle McCoy filed a lawsuit on May 4 in Woodbury County District Court. Since then, the lawsuit has been dropped, but the specifications or terms of a potential settlement have not been disclosed to the public. The culprit that convinced McCoy to take legal action may be described as rich and mild. Continue reading
