A-Rod Suing MLB for Alleged Witch Hunt

Thursday, October 3, 2013, Alex Rodriguez filed a lawsuit against Major League Baseball and Commissioner Bud Selig accusing them of a “witch hunt” designed to defame the reputation of the baseball star. The Huffington Post states, “The lawsuit, filed Thursday in New York State Supreme Court, seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages for what it alleges was a relentless campaign by the league and Selig to “destroy the reputation and career of Alex Rodriguez.” The suit was filed during initial hearings to overturn the 211 game suspension after violations by Rodriguez in regards to baseball’s drug agreement. Rodriguez is claiming that Bud Selig is going after him to make up for previous inaction in relation to other cases concerning performance enhancing drugs. Additional allegations claim criminal and unethical activity by the MLB including intimidating witnesses and pay outs for testimonies. Read More

Illegal Pesticide Use in America’s Healthiest Grocery Store

The healthy option?

The state of California is suing Whole Foods Market for selling products thatcontain pesticides that have not yet been registered with the state. The four products being reviewed are either pet products or insect repellants. Charlotte Fadipe, who is part of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation states, “to sell a pesticide product in stores, a company must register it with the state so that it can be tested and approved for safe use”. According to Charlotte, Whole Foods did not register the pesticides they are using in these four particular products, and people are bringing these products into their home without knowing if they are safe for use. Because these pesticides are unregistered, there is no way for the Department of Pesticide Regulation to know if they are safe, it must be first tested and approved. Read More

Class Action Lawsuit Against Naked Juice

Not only “All Natural” Ingredients

Naked Juice Consumers could be entitled to as much as 75 dollars if they purchased the product between September 27, 2007 and August 19, 2013. A recent class action lawsuit against the brand stated “alleged misuse of health phrases”. Phrases such as 100% Juice, 100% Fruit, All Natural Fruit, Non-GMO, etc. have caught the brand in the middle of this large lawsuit. While such phrases are printed on their easily recognizable bottles, the lawsuit claims that many of these products do in fact contain ingredients that are not “All Natural”, and some of the products are also made with genetically altered soy. This alleged false advertising has led parent company PepsiCo to settle for $9 million dollars, spread out across their many consumers. Read More

Lawsuit Filed Against America’s Soup Brand

With an emphasis on healthy living lately, it’s hard to miss the heart healthy checks on Campbell’s Soup cans when you walk down the aisle at the grocery store. A federal lawsuit was filed against Campbell Soup Co. and the American Heart Association stating the soups are not as heart healthy as the certification might suggest. The American Heart Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke through a heart healthy lifestyle and diet. According to the AHA website, a low sodium product is defined as having 140 milligrams of sodium or less per serving, however, to earn the publicly recognized stamp of approval from the AHA, the product should have no more than 480 milligrams of sodium per serving. This contradiction in standards is what has caught the AHA and Campbell Soup Co. in a lawsuit. Read More

College Student to get $4 Million in Settlement

Picture this, only smaller.

No one expects to go to a college party and wind up in a DEA holding cell for 4 days. Daniel Chong, a 25 year old college student is filing suit after being taken into custody during a drug raid at a friend’s house in April of 2012. He was taken into custody, but informed no charges against him would be pursued, and to “hang tight”, the officers would be back to get him in a few minutes. The doors to this cell did not open again for four days, and Daniel had no access to any food or water during this time period. When agents finally discovered Daniel still in this holding cell, he was suffering from hallucinations, dehydration, kidney failure, and a perforated esophagus; for which he needed to be hospitalized for five days.
