Baseball
In the present baseball climate, scrutiny and finger pointing has become the norm. Personalities and figures are cavalierly levying unfounded assertions of baseball players. Fear not though, these libelous accusations are not being met without legal recourse. These past two weeks we have seen Alex Rodriguez take action against the MLB and more recently Major League Superstar Albert Pujols take action against a St. Louis Radio personality.
Sweet or sour?
When Candy Crush is being mentioned, insistently everyone’s thinking about the addicting puzzle game. No one would ever come to a conclusion of candy literally crushing you. Beth Flickinger experienced 25 pounds of M&Ms piling on top of her head due to the malfunction of the candy dispenser and had filed a personal injury lawsuit. Flickinger’s only motivation during the accident was to catch the dispenser so it did not harm her two kids that were with her at Toys R Us, located in New York City’s Time Square. She was successful in protecting her kids, but the 42-year-old claims she suffered severe headaches, twisting her neck causing a herniated disk, loss of income, and apparently affected her sex life. I think it is safe to say that almost everyone has heard of the infamous McDonald’s coffee case, where the plaintiff received a healthy lump sum for suffering third-degree burns (some all the way to the bone) in her pelvic region when she spilled hot coffee. Why is it that companies keep finding themselves in hot water with hot coffee? Lourdes Cervantes, who is a resident of Houston TX, filed suit against Continental Airlines over an incident of hot coffee. Cervantes was on her way to Newark NJ from Madrid on board Continental Airlines Flight 63 where a stewardess placed a cup of coffee on the tray in front of her lap. The complaint states that the passenger in seated ahead of Cervantes reclined his seat, causing the coffee to slide off of the tray table on her lap mid-flight.

As a disability and personal injury lawyer, it pains me to see my clients in agony. It is just as disheartening to see children and veterans suffer.
Ominous metaphor
It can be assumed that one who takes part in violent activity is at risk of permanent injury. In many cases, however, the reward is well worth the occupational health risks. This is a justification that can be seen as far back as Roman Gladiators, who won riches and celebrations across the Empire for their successes despite facing certain death for their failures. The same holds true today, where aside from stunt drivers or Chris Brown’s girlfriend, a professional football player might be the most dangerous gig in the entertainment industry. The shelf life of an NFL player, especially those at positions prone to poundings (such as running back), is only a few years. Players who have spent their lives honing their craft are given a very small timeframe to cash in on their talent and to position themselves financially for the future. Even if a player remains healthy, fatigue and athletic decline can be seen by the age of 30. Just ask the guy who drafts Chad Ochocinco in your fantasy league this year.
