In the midst of lawmakers pushing for a ban on e-cigarettes, a student, Maxwell Berger, has filed a lawsuit against JUUL Lab, Inc. The 22-year-old suffered a stroke in July 2017, and says the cause was related to his frequent e-cigarette use. Initially attracted to JUUL’s different products and flavors, Berger started smoking in 2015 at the age of 18. Only a high school senior at the time, Berger was unaware of any potential side effects related to JUUL products. It is difficult to believe that a sleek, easy-to-use pen with a variety of tasteful flavors could ever cause a stroke in a young person. The lawsuit points the finger at JUUL’s misleading marketing tactics that lure young smokers into using their e-cigarettes. Continue reading

Heaping Class Action Filed in Response to Burning Trash
The South Carolina neighborhood of Ridgeland is under fire, literally. A landfill owned by Able Contracting has been burning for over a month, since June, to the point of probable contamination. Due to the landfill owner’s apparent negligence, a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of a construction company located close by to the burning site. The class action was filed with the intention of compensating residents and business owners in the surrounding area for a decline in property value, a decrease in potential revenue, and personal injury. Many residents voluntarily left their homes, and some are starting to cope with the possibility that they may never return to their homes. Continue reading
Explosive Settlement for Merrimack Valley, MA
At the end of July 2019, a $143 million settlement was announced, connected to a September 2018 Massachusetts natural gas explosion that left one resident dead and 25 other residents injured. Other individuals were also affected, as 100 buildings and homes in Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover were damaged. Due to the shared misfortune following the explosion, a class action lawsuit was filed against Columbia Gas of Massachusetts and NiSource Inc. A judge is now left to evaluate the terms of the settlement for approval. In the opinion of some, $143 million is only a small price to pay for the inconvenience and suffering of those who were forced to live without services of natural gas and must also rebuild their lives and homes. A seemingly unintentional, yet negligent chemical leak in Beach Park, IL sent 37 people to the hospital with reactions to anhydrous ammonia exposure. The five individuals include a motorist who drove through the cloud of chemicals, a Lake County sheriff’s deputy, a Beach Park firefighter, and two nearby residents who were in their homes at the time of the leak. A Laced Latte in Lethbridge, Canada
Accidents can happen anywhere, even in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, where one 32-week pregnant woman purchased a laced latte at McDonald’s in August 2018. Sarah Douglas allowed it to cool before taking a sip. She detected a strange taste to the latte and is now considering filing a lawsuit against McDonald’s for what was later discovered floating around in her beverage. Available in Small, Medium, and Large, McDonald’s advertises their 140 calorie lattes as a “treat” customized with “steamed whole or nonfat milk” with “your favorite flavor, including a rich vanilla latte, a toasty caramel latte, or a sweet, earthy hazelnut latte.” In this case, Sarah Douglas purchased a latte steamed with a chemical flavor.
