A popular hardware store has settled a class action lawsuit after some tooling around with their sales process. Harbor Freight, which has locations across the United States, agreed that they may have misstated discounts and coupon offers over a 4 year period. The settlement reads that anyone who purchased a product from Harbor Freight between April 8 2011 and Dec 15 2016 are now eligible to a reward. Customers will have their choice of 20% of the purchased product’s amount in cash, or 30% in Harbor Freight gift cards. Disney Animators Draw Up Agreement
Anti-poaching agreements prohibit companies from pitching a potential position to, and subsequently hiring, employees from their competitors. The companies refrain from increasing their employees’ wages past the initial contracted rate, leaving the employees stagnant. As a result, the employees and their wages suffer. The Walt Disney Company is guilty of anti-poaching practices, and have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit in the amount of $100 million. Other involved companies in this present settlement include Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Two PIC MC. Disney is the last of several major companies to settle. The animation and visual effects companies that previously entered settlements are DreamWorks Animation, Fox’s Blue Sky Studios, Sony Pictures Imageworks Inc., and Sony Pictures Animation Inc. Police Brutality Lawsuit Reaches Settlement
An 11-year dispute finally reached a resolution in the amount of $13.3 million. The lawsuit against the city of New Orleans was filed in the days following Hurricane Katrina. Seventeen plaintiffs in the suit brought allegations against the city, claiming it was responsible for “wrongful deaths and injuries, deprivation of civil rights and lost wages caused by instances of police brutality.” The three major complaints referenced in the lawsuit include a police-related shooting, resulting in the amputation of one woman’s arm and the deaths of two men on the Danziger Bridge; the cover-up of the shooting of a gentleman named Henry Glover; and the beating and death of a gentleman named Raymond Robair, by a police officer. Walmart Refuses to Admit Wrongdoing in Discrimination Lawsuit
Popular super center, Walmart, plans to settle a 2015 discrimination lawsuit, which focuses on the fact that until 2014, employees were denied health benefits for their same-sex spouses. The lawsuit was originally filed in Massachusetts, and on December 3, the opposing parties decided to settle in the US District Court of Massachusetts.
A Massachusetts Walmart employee, Jacqueline Cote, initiated the lawsuit, after facing consistent rejection of medical coverage for her wife, who was undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer.
VM Admissions Scandals Widen
Back on September 18, 2015, U.S. Environmental authorities disclosed that VM installed software on about 500,000 diesel-powered vehicles in order to give the appearance of the vehicles being emission friendly. However, at that time, it was deemed illegal and subsequently, VM admitted to installing this software on 11 million vehicles.
