Battle Lines Drawn Over World War II Statue

Healing old wounds

Residents of Southern California have filed a lawsuit against the city of Glendale over a controversial World War II statue. The $30,000 “Comfort Women” memorial is in honor of those Chinese and Korean women who were allegedly forced into prostitution by Imperial Japan in the 1930’s and 1940’s. The plaintiffs claim that the city is violating the supremacy clause of the U.S. Constitution, which is also referred to as “the law of the land”. Supporters of the statue are active in spreading word about the comfort women issue, while the Japanese government has never officially apologized on the record. While no dollar amount has been mentioned, many believe the plaintiffs are strictly interested in removing the statue altogether. Read more

Over 100 million people tuned in this past February to watch the 2014 Super Bowl. Friends. Aside from the immediate effects of the brain trauma, football players are increasingly reporting long-term effects such as dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Some of the consequences of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) include depression, increased aggression, and other memory-related issues. Last year, the more than 4,500 former players filed the class-action lawsuit against the National Football League demanding compensation for their injuries. Read More

Imagine waiting for someone you love dearly to arrive and when they do, you open the door to the taxi and they are dead. Sounds terrible, right? Well, that is was happened to a mother from North Carolina, Deborah Washington, who found her son A’Darrin Washington, “unresponsive and cold to the touch,” when he arrived home in a taxi. A’Darrin Washington was discharged from Cumberland County Hospital and died on Nov. 22, 2011 at the age of 30 and was a patient of the hospital for 10 years. Ms. Washington is suing the security firm whose guards are accused of forcibly removing her son from a hospital even though he was allegedly dying or possibly already dead. Read More

McDonalds Hit with Another Hot Coffee Lawsuit

The controversy over scalding hot coffee temperatures at McDonald’s continues. The fast food chain was recently hit with another lawsuit by a customer who was severely burned by their coffee. Joan Fino, a 74-year old California resident, is the latest to sue McDonalds for burns she sustained from hot coffee spilling in her lap. Nicholas Wagner, Fino’s attorney states, “Despite over 1,000 complaints from customers about being burned by the coffee, McDonald’s still continues to brew the coffee at such an exceptionally high temperature”. Fino claims she receive her coffee and the lid was not secure, causing her to spill the coffee, and she continues to suffer from the aftermath of her injuries. Read More
