Hit the jackpot

In February, the jackpot of a lifetime landed in the lap of New Jersey native, Rony Beal.  A routine visitor of Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel & Casino, Beal played hundreds of dollars on a particular Wheel of Fortune machine, which granted a lifechanging payout of $2,555,910.  Now, months later, the winner has hired a lawyer, has contacted a news media outlet, and plans to take legal action against Bally’s and IGT, the company that manufactures and manages the machines played by Bally’s casino patrons.  The monetary damages have not yet been specified.

Path of destruction

After three weeks of scorched destruction in the Texas Panhandle, a massive wildfire known as the Smokehouse Creek fire, has been entirely contained.  The fire has caused a debilitating loss, including the deaths of two individuals, the demise of cattle in the total of thousands, and the ruin of 500 structures.  Although investigators have not yet indicated a precise cause for the start of the fire, a Texas resident, Melanie McQuiddy, has filed a lawsuit against Southwestern Public Service Company, claiming that the utility corporation failed to properly maintain a rotting pole.

Surprise in the mail

The thought that we are practically always under surveillance can feel unsettling.  The idea may lead us to second guess our internet searches, our purchases in the grocery store, or our text messages to friends and family.  Hundreds of reported women throughout the country, however, have recently raised concerns about communication they have received that does not necessarily coincide with their everyday patterns and habits.  Their red flags have triggered the search for a “Jenny B” and her reason for sending them coupons, gift cards, and greeting cards.  What is the purpose of this kindness?  According to the cards, it is to congratulate the women on their recent pregnancies.  The disturbing factor in this string of events is that many of the women who have received the gifts are not pregnant.

The first space crime

Initiated in November 1998, the International Space Station is a monumental project, and has served as living quarters to astronauts since the year 2000. Among the valuable scientific research that takes place on the Space Station, it is also home to the first space crime.  Anne McClain has recently gained infamy for allegedly tapping into her estranged spouse’s bank account while onboard the Space Station.  While no money was stolen from the account, McClain’s spouse, Summer Worden, learned of the invasion of privacy when McClain communicated with Worden about her spending habits.  An investigation is currently underway.
