Filed by his former employee, the former Godfather is facing a lawsuit that comes in retaliation after an initial claim was filed by the actor’s company. Graham Chase Robinson is going after Robert De Niro for gender discrimination and has provided a list of specific examples and instances to solidify her accusations. Upon learning of Robinson’s intent to file, De Niro’s company, Canal Productions, sued her for $6 million based on her apparently subpar performance as an employee. Employees Gain Support in Casino Discrimination Claim
A lawsuit ten years in the making, five former Atlantic City Borgata Casino cocktail waitresses finally have the chance to speak at trial in defense of their gender discrimination claim. In their argument, the christened “Borgata Babes” faced a hostile work environment, in which they were forced to adhere to certain weight requirements. In the event of pregnancies or adverse health conditions, the women were either suspended for their weight gain or were pressured into ceasing medications that contributed to the weight gain. As part of their job, the cocktail waitresses were subjected to routine weigh-ins, and were forbidden to gain more than 7% of their weight from when they started working as a Babe. While some contend that this policy is discriminatory to women, others believe these employees were fully aware of the policies before commencing employment. A jury will be left to decide their fate. B-E Aggressive, But Don’t Consider It A Sport
A 2009 gender discrimination lawsuit filed by the Quinnipiac University Women’s Volleyball coach against the school has recently been settled. The settlement is of particular interest in athletic departments across the nation as it offers a solution to a frequently-had debate in the sports world: Is Cheerleading a sport? In an attempt to eliminate Quinnipiac’s volleyball program altogether, the school had intimated that sufficient resources had instead been allotted to competitive cheer and that they were therefore compliant under the guidelines of Title IX.
