The long-running animated show, South Park, has premiered as a staple on the cable television network, Comedy Central, for many years. Although known for its hilarious parodies, which often poke fun at celebrities, pop culture, and politics, South Park is now at the center of an extensive lawsuit focusing on streaming service rights. The two services that are battling against one another are HBO Max and Paramount+. Masking the Issue
As the pandemic continues to affect our daily lives, parents and coaches are attempting to bring the routine of America’s youth back to normalcy. In particular, a group referred to as “Let Them Play MN” has taken legal action and is asking Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to end the COVID-19 mandate affecting youth athletics. The restrictions require athletes participating in youth sports to wear masks during practice and game time. Supported by medical experts, the group of parents and coaches are concerned about the masks hindering breathing abilities and visibility. Both may lead to an increased potential for injury. Hospital Tries to Avoid Strike
During this past week, in response to a scheduled nurses strike, the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) filed a lawsuit that would hopefully halt the strike. With nurses on the street instead of caring for patients, the hospital is concerned for the wellbeing and health of the public. At the heart of the strike is the struggle and dispute over contract negotiations and staffing needs. The Illinois Nurses Association supports the rights of over a thousand nurses currently employed by the University of Illinois Hospital. Nurses affiliated with this organization were employed under a three-year-contract that just ended on August 24 but was extended for an additional two weeks. The two parties have not come to an agreement in regard to updated contract terms. Continue reading
Lawsuit on the Menu
Restaurants, eateries, and bars in New York City are allegedly receiving less than fair or equal treatment by the New York State Liquor Authority (SLA). While one establishment received a liquor license suspension after 30 warnings or violations, the liquor license for another restaurant was revoked after only one violation. One of the restaurants that has been handed a liquor license suspension is fighting back, claiming the SLA conducted a hollow investigation and did not uphold the rules of due process. The restaurant is Cloister Café, located in the East Village. Continue reading
Grab Your Margaritas, the Lawsuit is Over
The parties involved in a lawsuit, which stalled the building of a Margaritaville resort in Fort Myers Beach, FL, have come to an agreement. The plaintiffs in the case alleged that the construction and plan for the resort was arguably unconstitutional and would lead to a negative impact due to its size and density. This lawsuit, however, was not the sole complaint about the project, as other lawsuits in the past have been filed in an attempt to stop the development. Naturally, the litigation costs required of the lawsuits have hindered the financing of the project itself. Despite any downfalls or roadblocks that the lawsuits have caused, the plan to create the resort is now underway. Continue reading
