First discovered in the early 1980’s, significant levels of cleaning solvents were detected in the well water located at Camp Lejeune. Hundreds of thousands of Marines and their family members were exposed to contaminated water, which has been recognized as the leading cause for illnesses and deaths. A portion of a Jacksonville City cemetery is reserved for the babies that have passed away due to the contamination. The dates of determined exposure range from the 1950’s through the 1980’s. Now, due to the passing of recent legislation, veterans are legally allowed to sue for relief. Continue reading

Heaping Class Action Filed in Response to Burning Trash

The South Carolina neighborhood of Ridgeland is under fire, literally.  A landfill owned by Able Contracting has been burning for over a month, since June, to the point of probable contamination. Due to the landfill owner’s apparent negligence, a class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of a construction company located close by to the burning site.  The class action was filed with the intention of compensating residents and business owners in the surrounding area for a decline in property value, a decrease in potential revenue, and personal injury.  Many residents voluntarily left their homes, and some are starting to cope with the possibility that they may never return to their homes. Champion Pet Food manufactures two brands of dry dog food, Orijen and Acana, which are both named in a recent class action lawsuit. The parent company is under scrutiny for negligently failing to list and mention in the dog food packaging and advertising, the presence of heavy toxins. The dangerous chemicals and metals include arsenic, lead, bisphenol (BPA), mercury, and cadmium. BPA is not a chemical commonly associated with pet foods. Not only are these toxins harmful to dogs, but the company deliberately failed to disclose these ingredients to the dog owners who regularly purchase the dry dog food. Continue reading
