Shortly following a September 25 train accident in Montana, the wife of a deceased passenger has filed a lawsuit against Amtrak and BNSF Railway. The ten-car train was traveling from Chicago to Seattle and was maintaining the speed of 75 mph at the time of the incident. While Rebecca Schneider was located in the sleeper car, her husband’s viewing car derailed, killing him. Two other fatalities in the accident include a couple, Don and Margie Varnadoe, who were taking a cross-country trip in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. A portion of the remaining 138 passengers and 16 crew members sought medical treatment for injuries, and all but five have since been released from the hospital. Continue reading

Advertisements suggest that Tesla’s Model X exhibits an autopilot function that is perhaps stronger and more efficient than a typical cruise control feature. Experts even suggest that the objective to create a fully self-driving car would enhance safety on the road and exceed the driving capabilities of a person. As college football enters its second month of the 2021 season, Penn State University fans may celebrate a new kind of win. A Chief US District court judge has granted a motion in favor of dismissing Coach James Franklin and Penn State University from a hazing and retaliation lawsuit that was filed in January 2020. Under the initial claim, former player, Isaiah Humphries, alleges that four football players hazed him as a way of initiating him to the team. The amount of compensation Humphries was seeking was not disclosed to the public. Continue reading

Following a body sculpting, fat-freezing cosmetic procedure, Linda Evangelista has filed a lawsuit against Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc., citing loss of work, emotional distress, and inability to engage in public appearances or promotions. Evangelista, a supermodel who rose to fame in the 1990’s, is seeking $50 million in compensation and has filed her claim in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. According to her argument, resulting from seven treatments that took place from August 2015 through February 2016, Evangelista suffered physical disfigurement. Continue reading

Hiding money?

It was recently decided in a bankruptcy lawsuit that one of the stars of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Girardi, would be responsible for disclosing pertinent financial documentation. Her accountant, lawyer, and landlord have also been dragged into the deal and must supply the needed documents, such as bank statements, pay slips, and correspondence pertaining to the state of her finances. This bankruptcy battle began in December 2020, after it was discovered that Girardi’s husband, who is a prominent Los Angeles lawyer, was involved in the misappropriation of settlement funds that were promised as payment to the families of the victims of a 2018 Boeing plane accident.
