A Salt Lake City entrepreneur has taken her role as a cast member on The Real Housewives to a level of legal proportion.  When she is not vacationing on girls’ trips and arguing at plated meals with her fellow housewives, Heather Gay devotes her time as the co-owner of Beauty Lab + Laser, a Utah-based company that offers cosmetic enhancements, such as Botox, lip injections, fillers, contouring, sculpturing treatments, and hair restoration, among other services.  Otherwise viewed as a successful business, a recent lawsuit has led to the company’s potential harm and lost revenue.

A Sour Mistake

Toxic consumption

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that 400 milligrams of caffeine per day is considered a safe dose for healthy adults.  Depending on the type of roast and brand of coffee, this amount of caffeine equates to four or five cups of coffee.  Despite this guideline, people with varying health conditions may exhibit sensitivities to caffeine that require them to limit their intake.  The case of 21-year-old college student, Sarah Katz, exemplifies this circumstance.  In September 2022, Katz’s caffeine intake was linked to her suffering of two instances of cardiac arrest.

Cheese Co. Singled Out

What’s your favorite cheese?

Emphasized as a key Food That Built America, American cheese has remained a staple in households across the nation since James Kraft introduced it at the turn of the 20th century.  This episode of the History Channel’s popular food origin show concludes with food expert, Adam Richman reminiscently peeling apart the wrapper to a Kraft American cheese single, folding it, and taking a bite on camera.  Two and a half years after this episode aired, Kraft has issued a recall for this exact product.

Rideshare with Care

A fatal mistake

The family of a slain 21-year-old has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the ridesharing company, Uber.  In the claim, the family accuses the Uber driver of negligently leaving the area where their son exited the vehicle.  On the early morning of May 21, 2023, 21-year-old Cory Hunter was one of five passengers in the car.  He had fallen asleep during the trip, however, around 2:30 am he was asked to leave the vehicle to allow another passenger to vomit outside.  Unfortunately, Hunter never hopped back into the car.

Settlement is a Juul

E-cigarette marketing mishap

Initially filed in 2019, King County, WA targeted the company that produces and markets Juul e-cigarette products, Juul Labs Inc.  In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claimed that Juul purposefully advertised its flavored vapor devices to teenagers and a younger generation.  Although the e-cigarette company challenged the claims brought against the company, the parties involved have agreed to settle the Washington state lawsuit for $23 million.  While based on the settlement agreement, King County may accumulate an additional $1.8 million, the compensation awarded in the lawsuit will aid in the funding of local tobacco-use prevention programs.
